New York Giants left tackle Nate Solder, who is under-performing after signing a four-year, $62 million contract last year, has become the focal point of many a trade rumor in recent days with some of those rumors connecting him directly to the Cleveland Browns.

However, until Wednesday, Solder had managed to somehow avoid hearing about those trade rumors… But the New York media made sure to put a stop to that.

“I love being here, I love this group of guys and I love this team,” Solder told the New York Post after being made aware of the rumors. “My emphasis is getting ready for this game. There are so many things out of my control. I’ve got a lot of teammates working hard to play well in this game against the Lions, so I’m looking forward to being here, looking forward to Sunday.”

Solder, who blamed some of his early 2018 struggles on an injury, underwent foot surgery this offseason and has not come out playing any better than the year prior. This time however, Solder isn’t making any excuses and his teammates have his back.

“It’s not fair,” center Jon Halapio told The Post. “He can’t block all the people by himself. When they do the stat sheet, it doesn’t say Nate Solder gave up eight sacks. It’s a team thing.”

Through seven games so far this season, Solder has amassed a 64.4 Pro Football Focus grade and has given up five sacks while committing four penalties.

For comparison purposes, Halapio has compiled a 51.6 grade while surrendering two sacks and committing two penalties.
