Giants' Pat Shurmur rules out benching Daniel Jones in favor of Eli Manning

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said on Monday that he has no plans to bench struggling rookie quarterback Daniel Jones and restore veteran Eli Manning into the lineup, even if Jones turns the ball over several dozen more times.

Jones’ performance has been declining every week, and watchful eyes around the team are questioning whether Jones was thrust into the fray too early. After lighting up Tampa Bay in his debut and then Washington the next week, Jones has seen his numbers flatten out and his turnovers and mental mistakes skyrocket.

In his six games, Jones has six touchdowns passes and seven interceptions. His completion percentage is 61.1%, he’s been sacked 18 times and has six fumbles.

Once the Giants made the switch to Jones from Manning, there was likely no looking back. They are locked into Jones with Eli in the wings in case of an emergency.

The Giants are a franchise that is being pulled in many directions at the moment. The general manager has his vision, and the coaching staff seems to have theirs. It shows out on the field with the Giants, who are 7-16 since Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur took over the reins.
